Hellenic festival resources

A few resources I should have included in my last post:

The Ancient Athenian Festival Calendar on my Kharis website – gives brief descriptions and ancient dating for all major Athenian festivals and a few other demoi.

HMEPA (Hellenic Month Established Per Athens) – aligns the ancient lunar calendar with the modern one year by year, shows major festivals.

Dionysos Festivals – lots of information on festivals both ancient and modern for Dionysos, from our Wildivine site

Festivals of the Athenians by H.W. Parke

Festivals of Attica by Erika Simon

Greek Folk Religion by Martin Nilsson

Greek Religion by Walter Burkert

Kharis: Hellenic Polytheism Explored, Chapter 3 – yes, this is my own book, but I do have a chapter on ritual that expressly discusses how to do festivals

This is more than enough to get anyone started. Although the best way to create an effective, meaningful festival calendar is to do it. Start with a few, see how they go, make necessary changes and additions, rinse and repeat year after year.
